Hello my name is Max, and I am a dreamer.
How many times have you heard in the recovery community "Hello my name is _____, I have this problem"?
Wouldn't it be something if you could help a person say "Hello my name is ____, I have this solution?"?
That is the spirit behind this project. It is not problem focused it is solution focused.
This is my introduction to the Titan Refuge project. In this introduction I intend to inform you of my personal goals for the project. We will discuss some of the problems this project is aimed at solving. I will tell you how you personally can get involved today.
Let me tell you what I won't be doing: I won't be asking you for money. In no way will I make you feel guilty to manipulate your feelings. If you decide to contribute in any way I want you to do it because it is in your heart to do it.
I have been a part of the mental health community, the addiction recovery community, and the inspiration community. My vision I will be the first to admit is big. A big part of that vision is to change the way you think about caring for the down and out. It is my firm belief that the current health community is working hard to solve a problem of amazing scale, and it needs some help.
Here are some facts for you to consider before we go any further:
1. In America alone we are currently heading into a time period of enormous growth for the healthcare industry. Our medical schools and colleges are struggling to keep up with demand for doctors and nurses. This is great news if you are on the providing end of health care. However this can be a troubling time to be a healthcare consumer.
2. In times of growth and in times of shrinkage the stress creates more personal problems. This means that whether we are in a recession or in a growth period economically people will be hurt. People will feel left behind. The sad fact is that if nothing is done about this, these people generally have the greatest difficulty receiving care.
Now there is some bad news in there, but it's only bad if you view that as the end of the story. It isn't the end of the story. This is where our story begins.
My vision is to create a prototype center to treat issues including - but not limited to - depression, divorce, addictive or obsessive issues, anxiety and fear. This center will be known as the Titan Refuge.
Why Titan Refuge?
The titans were Greek mythological figures that competed with the Olympians. Often in our culture we use the word titan to give an impression of massive size. The Titanic and the Titan Missile Program in the United States both took their names from these figures. Titan in the context of our project is symbolic. It symbolizes both the size of the problem, and the size of our solution. Massive pain requires great caring to treat. This is where the word refuge comes in.
A refuge is defined as a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or trouble. This is at the heart of everything to be provided by this project. When people in pain contact us we will give them refuge from the pain. We will comfort their pain. We will have their back and provide safety in a world they feel so alone and abandoned in.
Now, this is just an overview of the project goals and problems we intend to fix. Over the next few weeks I intend to discuss a diversity of issues ranging from the current health care environment to more practical things such as the concrete plans that have been made.
Before I sign off this first post let's talk about you for a minute. Yes, I mean you, whoever you are and whatever your background can do something for this project. I don't care if you are poor or rich, young or old, there is a place for you in this project.
So here are some projects I want you to start thinking about participating in, arranged by what skills you may have:
No matter what skills you have you can help brainstorm and support this project. You can provide prayer and meditation on new and innovative ideas. You can believe in this no matter who you are. I am sure that no matter who you are you can think of someone who will benefit from this sort of project. Do it for them.
If you have skills in fundraising we need you. This project has multiple resource needs and you can help to develop a pitch.
If you have skills in any of the care areas your input is valuable. You can influence the future of how these issues are dealt with. It doesn't matter if you are a doctor, a nurse, a pastor, a therapist or even a leader of a support group. You've been there and you know what is needed. If you feel the call you might even be a good fit for the core staff. Think about it.
If you are a writer, an artist or an idealist you can help. As already mentioned you can help shape the project. You can also help inspire people. Joining our team and working beside your fellow man to shape the world into a better place, isn't that why you started to begin with?
I'm so excited to meet you regardless! Pop a message on here or send me an email and we can start building this community. It's going to take all of us together to get this done.
